MarkForge Terms of Use

These Terms of Use govern your use of MarkForge.app and the MarkForge document-conversion tools.
By using MarkForge, you agree to these Terms.
If you do not agree with these Terms, do not use the service.
1. About MarkForge
MarkForge provides browser-based document tools, including a PDF-to-Markdown converter.
The current PDF-to-Markdown tool processes supported PDF documents locally in your web browser and produces Markdown output that you may copy, edit, or download.
MarkForge may add, remove, modify, or discontinue features over time.
2. Permitted Use
You may use MarkForge for lawful personal, educational, professional, or commercial purposes.
You are responsible for ensuring that your use of MarkForge complies with applicable laws and does not violate the rights of others.
3. Your Documents
You retain ownership of the documents and content you process using MarkForge.
MarkForge does not claim ownership of your PDF files or generated Markdown.
You are responsible for ensuring that you have the legal right or permission to process any document you use with the service.
You must not use MarkForge to process or distribute material in a way that infringes copyrights, privacy rights, contractual obligations, or other applicable rights.
4. Local Processing
For supported browser-based conversion features, document processing is designed to occur locally on your device.
MarkForge does not intentionally upload your PDF to MarkForge servers as part of the standard PDF-to-Markdown conversion process.
Future MarkForge features may operate differently. If MarkForge introduces server-side document processing, OCR services, AI services, cloud storage, or similar functionality, applicable disclosures and terms will be updated.
5. Conversion Accuracy
PDF files can contain complicated formatting, unusual fonts, scanned pages, images, columns, tables, equations, or other structures that may not convert accurately into Markdown.
MarkForge does not guarantee that:
- Every PDF can be converted.
- Formatting will be preserved perfectly.
- Headings will always be identified correctly.
- Tables will always convert correctly.
- Text will appear in the intended reading order.
- Generated Markdown will be error-free.
- Scanned or image-only PDFs will be supported.
You are responsible for reviewing converted Markdown before relying on, publishing, distributing, importing, or otherwise using it.
6. No Professional Advice
MarkForge is a document-processing utility.
Content processed or generated through MarkForge does not constitute legal, financial, medical, tax, professional, or other specialized advice from MarkForge.
MarkForge does not review or validate the accuracy of the information contained in documents you process.
7. Availability
MarkForge may be changed, updated, interrupted, suspended, or discontinued at any time.
MarkForge does not guarantee continuous or uninterrupted availability.
Features may be limited by:
- Browser compatibility
- Device resources
- PDF format
- File size
- Network availability for website resources
- Third-party software dependencies
8. Third-Party Software and Services
MarkForge may rely on third-party open-source libraries, hosting infrastructure, content-delivery networks, fonts, or other technical services.
Those services may be governed by their own terms, licenses, and privacy practices.
MarkForge is not responsible for the availability or operation of third-party services outside its control.
9. Prohibited Use
You may not use MarkForge to:
- Violate applicable law.
- Infringe intellectual-property rights.
- Attempt to compromise, disrupt, damage, or overload the service.
- Introduce malicious software or harmful code.
- Circumvent security or technical restrictions.
- Attempt unauthorized access to systems associated with MarkForge.
- Misrepresent MarkForge as your own service or falsely imply endorsement or affiliation.
Automated use that materially interferes with the normal operation of MarkForge may be restricted.
10. Intellectual Property
The MarkForge name, branding, website design, original software, documentation, and other MarkForge-created materials are protected by applicable intellectual-property laws.
Third-party libraries and components remain subject to their respective licenses.
These Terms do not transfer ownership of MarkForge intellectual property to you.
11. Advertising, Affiliate Links, and Sponsored Content
MarkForge may introduce advertising, affiliate links, sponsored content, software recommendations, or other commercial relationships in the future.
Where required or appropriate, MarkForge will identify advertising or disclose material financial relationships associated with recommendations, affiliate links, or sponsored content.
The presence of an advertisement, affiliate link, or third-party product does not constitute a guarantee or warranty by MarkForge regarding that product or service.
12. Paid Features
MarkForge may offer premium tools, subscriptions, one-time purchases, credits, or other paid services in the future.
Additional pricing, billing, cancellation, refund, or usage terms may apply to paid features and will be presented when such services are introduced.
13. Disclaimer of Warranties
MarkForge is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis to the fullest extent permitted by applicable law.
MarkForge makes no warranties, express or implied, regarding:
- Availability
- Accuracy
- Reliability
- Compatibility
- Completeness
- Fitness for a particular purpose
- Conversion quality
You use MarkForge at your own discretion and risk.
14. Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, MarkForge and its operators will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or similar damages arising from or related to your use of the service.
This includes, without limitation, loss resulting from:
- Incorrect document conversion
- Lost formatting
- Missing content
- Corrupted output
- Loss of data
- Business interruption
- Reliance on generated Markdown
- Temporary or permanent service unavailability
Where liability cannot legally be excluded, liability will be limited to the maximum extent permitted by applicable law.
15. Backups
MarkForge is not a file-storage or backup service.
You are responsible for retaining the original copies of any documents you process and for backing up any Markdown output you wish to preserve.
16. Changes to the Service
MarkForge may introduce new tools, premium features, advertising, affiliate relationships, accounts, subscriptions, APIs, or other services in the future.
Additional or updated terms may apply to those features.
17. Changes to These Terms
These Terms may be updated periodically.
Changes will be posted on this page with a revised "Last updated" date.
Continued use of MarkForge after updated Terms are posted constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms to the extent permitted by applicable law.
18. Severability
If any portion of these Terms is found unenforceable, the remaining provisions will continue in effect to the extent permitted by applicable law.
